i pulled up to this apartment to drop off a delivery and immediately saw this massive cardboard sign taped to the ground like it was some kind of airport runway instruction manual. the person who ordered wrote a full list of rules telling drivers not to drop anything at the door, not to knock, not to ring the bell, and basically to back away from the building so they could secretly retrieve the food while we sat in the car. apparently their dog barks and the upstairs neighbor complains, so now every driver has to follow this whole process just to drop off a bag of food.

i stood there reading it thinking there’s no way someone actually expects a delivery driver to follow a four-paragraph procedure over a sandwich. the note even said not to stare through the window while waiting for the tip because it’s “awkward.” like i’m supposed to park, drop the food on a cardboard board, run back to my car, reverse out, and pretend i’m part of some stealth food operation.

so i did what any normal person would do when they’re already behind on deliveries. i set the food right by the door, snapped the photo for the app, and left. i’m not standing there playing instructions from a cardboard command center just because someone can’t handle their dog barking.

about ten minutes later i checked the app and sure enough the tip was gone. apparently following the giant list of rules mattered more to them than actually getting their food delivered. i guess next time i’m supposed to treat their apartment like a drive-through heist instead of a normal drop-off.
