I AM SOOOO FUCKED… I moved into my new house and quickly realized that every single electrical outlet is covered up, like the place was intentionally designed to be unusable. I have NO idea how I didn’t notice this during the house tour… When I contacted my landlord about it, he told me I would have to pay an extra two to three hundred dollars just to uncover them, because he is obsessed with controlling electricity usage in the complex. The insane part is that electricity is already included in the lease and covered by the rent, so this isn’t about policy, it’s about him not wanting me to actually use what I’m paying for.
Any time I even touch one of the outlet covers, he somehow finds out immediately and threatens me. The second I start to unscrew anything, my phone lights up and he warns me to stop or says he’ll deduct it from my security deposit. It feels like I’m being watched over something as basic as plugging in my own things.
He straight up told me,
“If you mess with the outlets, I’ll take it out of your deposit.”
Now I’m stuck paying for a place where I can’t even use electricity without being shaken down for more money, and I feel completely trapped. I can’t live normally, I can’t fix the issue myself, and every move I make feels like it’s being used as leverage against me
