My dad came home all excited saying he had a “surprise” for me and handed over this carefully wrapped box like it was some huge moment. I opened it expecting something decent and it’s a Kindle. After all the hints I’ve been dropping about wanting the latest iPad, that’s what he decided to spend his bonus check on.

He’s standing there smiling, waiting for some big grateful reaction, and all I could think was how far off the mark he was. I’ve been pretty clear about the kind of tech I actually use, and a basic e-reader is not even close to the same thing as a new iPad.

I walked outside with the box still open and tossed the Kindle straight onto the driveway. It shattered across the pavement, and honestly it felt like the only way to make the message clear. If he’s going to spend money on a “surprise,” he should know better than to waste it on something that cheap when he knows I have a reputation to maintain.
