So apparently, starting now, ALL front-of-house staff (servers, bartenders, bussers) are financially responsible for missing silverware. Yes… forks, knives, spoons — literally anything that disappears.

Let me break this down:
We went from hundreds of pieces of silverware… to barely any left. And instead of asking why this is happening (guests throwing them away? dish pit issues? management systems?), the solution is… charge the staff.

Fork = $3
Knife = $5
Soup spoon = $3
Dessert spoon = $2

At the end of every month, they’re doing an audit… and whatever’s missing? We PAY for it. Out of pocket.

Mind you — this is a restaurant where we’re already juggling a million things: running food, flipping tables, handling guests, fixing mistakes that aren’t even ours… and now we’re also expected to babysit every single piece of silverware like it’s a rare collectible??

And the line that really got me : “We can no longer spoon feed everyone, so fork it up!”

Like… are we being serious right now? 😅
I get accountability. I get reducing waste. But how does it make sense to charge employees for something that’s mostly out of their control? Customers throw things away ALL the time. Things get lost in trash, dishwashers, takeout boxes…

Meanwhile management calls everything “flawless” and then drops this on staff.

💭 So I’m genuinely curious…
Is this normal where you work?
Would YOU stay at a job that makes you pay for missing utensils?
Or is this just wild??
