I was actually excited about this. I loaded everything up, walked a few blocks to my stepmom’s house thinking I was doing something nice. Groceries, snacks, little extras. Just trying to be thoughtful.

Tell me why the first thing out of her mouth wasn’t “thank you,” but basically disappointment. Like it wasn’t enough. Like I somehow did it wrong. No appreciation, just vibes of “oh… that’s it?”

And of course. OF COURSE. here comes the comparison.
“Well your sister always brings more.”
“She usually adds extra stuff.”

Okay??? Good for her??? Sorry I didn’t turn this into a Costco sponsorship??? Mind you, her house is literally blocks away, I WALKED this over, and I still get side-eyed like I showed up empty handed. It’s so draining trying to do something nice and immediately being made to feel like it doesn’t count.

I swear nothing kills the motivation faster than ungrateful energy and unnecessary comparisons. Next time I’ll just save my steps and my sanity.
