Mariska Hargitay has partnered with the Purple Leash Project, an initiative led by Purina and the nonprofit RedRover, to raise awareness and support for domestic violence survivors who have pets. The project aims to make more domestic violence shelters pet-friendly, so survivors never have to choose between their own safety and the well-being of their animals.  Research shows that nearly half of domestic abuse survivors delay leaving their abuser because they don’t want to leave their pets behind, and fewer than 20% of shelters currently accept animals.
