I walked outside this morning and almost wiped out on the stairs because my duplex neighbor once again decided shoveling isn’t her problem. The entire staircase is covered in packed snow and slush with this narrow sloppy path down the middle that looks like someone half-assed it and quit halfway through. The thing that really gets me is I shoveled it the last time it snowed even though nobody ever officially agreed on whose job it was. I figured it was just basic common courtesy when you share stairs with someone.
Apparently courtesy only works one direction. She’s been home all morning too because I saw her lights on and her car sitting there while I’m standing outside looking at what basically turned into a frozen obstacle course. These aren’t two little steps either, it’s a full staircase leading down to the sidewalk and someone is eventually going to eat it on that ice.
So I grabbed my shovel, cleared only my half of the steps, and pushed all the snow straight over to her side so now it’s piled up even higher on the half she uses. If she wants to pretend the stairs magically clear themselves then she can climb over the mountain I left there.
If she slips later today I already know she’s going to act shocked about how it happened. Meanwhile I’m just watching from my window because apparently that’s the system we’re using now.
